ST. LOUIS – As Schnucks continue to expand its variety, fresh frozen bison (or buffalo) meat will soon be available to St. Louis area customers, by special order, at select service meat counters in the St. Louis area, which will be supplied by SayersBrook Bison Ranch of Potosi, MO. Paul Schulte, meat category manager at Schnucks, said, "SayersBrook bison meat is nationally known for its great flavor, excellent quality and important health benefits. Frozen bison is available locally, but we're excited that Schnucks customers will soon be able to purchase bison in a variety of forms, including burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, strip sirloin, London broil, T-bones and bison tenderloins." According to Schulte, bison should be a big hit with dieters. "Bison has the lowest calorie content of any meat with 75% fewer calories than skinless chicken and 10 times fewer calories than salmon," said Schulte. "It is naturally grown with 40% more protein than beef, so bison certainly fits the bill for popular low-carb diets." Before being rolled out company wide, bison will be immediately available at the following Schnucks meat departments: Des Peres, Mason Dorsett, Wildwood, Chesterfield, Woods Mill, Lindbergh, Ladue, Richmond Center, Twin Oaks. Each Schnucks service meat counter will have a display featuring 12 items of bison meat for order. Orders will be delivered the next week. The SayersBrook Bison Ranch is located near Potosi, MO, and offers tours and meals to groups of 20 or more. Call 573-438-4449 for more information.
